This course offers an introduction to Medieval History through the use and critique of popular representations of the period and its people in contemporary media (including historical fiction, film, and games). In pairing these popular interpretations with the traditional sources of the academic study of the Middle Ages, students are introduced to the basics of medieval political, social, economic, and religious history.

The New Visions Social Studies Curriculum is a full scope and sequence for the 9th and 10th grade Global History and Geography course and the 11th grade United States History and Government course as set out by the New York State K-12 Social Studies Framework. Through the investigation and analysis of primary and secondary sources, students have the opportunity to think critically, and to read, write, and speak like historians, while simultaneously honing the literacy and critical thinking skills necessary for both the New York State Regents exams and post-secondary coursework.

The pacing calendar for each course provides a roadmap for the year that includes suggestions for when topics are taught and how much time should be spent investigating them. Our pacing calendars are aligned with the New York City Department of Education’s academic calendar, but we encourage educators to make a copy of the calendar for the course they are teaching and modify it to fit their district’s calendar.
