Bidirectional switch Hello, I know this issue has been raised many times in this forum but neither of responses was practical or at least understandable for me. I want to switch on-and-off an analog voltage that is a sine wave(and sometimes DC, I can't use Triac) between -15V to +15V with mosfet power transistors. Current of this line is about 1A. Does a MOSFET allow current flow in reverse direction (i.e.; from source to drain)? I made a Google search, but couldn't find a clear statement about this matter. I have found this similar question, but it is about detecting current direction from the schematic symbol of a MOSFET. I'm looking to build a bidirectional power switch for a negative power rail. I have a +12V, +5V, +3V3 and -5V supply to switch. For the positive supplies, I'm using two P-channel mosfets in a common source configuration, which can be controlled directly from a logic level (0-5V) microcontroller. The Si3831DV is a low on-resistance p-channel power MOSFET providing bi-directional blocking and conduction. Bi-directional blocking is facilitated by combining a 4-terminal symmetric p-channel MOSFET with a body bias selector circuit a. Circuit operation automatically biases the p-channel body to the most positive source/drain potential thereby. Two MOSFET connected in anti-series fashion can be used as bidirectional switch. Here are some example to make switch supported with bidirectional current flow or four quadrant operation. As you can see figure (b) and (c) answers your question.

Bidirectional solid state relays are had to find in particular for high power switching. Here we will build one.
Fig. 1 illustrates my bidirectional MOSFET relay-switch. It used a photovoltaic opto-coupler to drive dual N-channel MOSFETs.

Fig. 2 is the schematic to the circuit in Fig. 1. The output voltage and current ratings depend on the two MOSFETs used.

While Fig. 3 illustrates the possible connections for a PVT212 bidirectional SSR the same connections can be done with Fig. 2
